Megan Bruinen (Rotterdam, 1998) is a director, visual artist and musician. Working across multiple disciplines, her practice primarily engages music, writing, and video, often combined into audiovisual installations. She examines how self-narration and subjectivity are fabricated, appropriated and reshaped within digital spaces.
Through an engagement with fragmented online selves, female archetypes and the emotive strategies of cinematic language, Bruinen investigates how narratives are adopted, inhabited and how they, in turn, shape identity. Writing and research form the foundation of her practice: she transforms found texts and syntactic structures into scores for sound works, film scripts or sculptural objects. Through processes of layering and juxtaposition, these elements are brought into dialogue, evoking the fragmentation, excess and resonance of contemporary identity.
