Efficient Ways of Living (I), 2022
HD video, 6:53
Efficient Ways of Living (I) focuses on the architectural wonder of a house featured in several beloved reality shows. In one specific season of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, the house is the stage for the ins ‘n outs of the life of Carlton Gebbia, the person behind the fantasy that erected the house in one of the most expensive neighbourhoods of the USA. By combining realtor shots (that were made after Mrs. Gebbia had to sell the house in 2009), with the set-documentation of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, the videowork revolves around the mashup of European gothic and renaissance style inspired by fairytales, the implications of money in realizing one’s fantasies and the analysis of aesthetic choices dominating levels of efficiency.
